Laxey mines was opened in 1770. There were several tunnels, which was sinked later. The mines employed over half of thousand miners at its peak producing lead, copper, silver and zinc till the mines closed in 1934.

 

Today Laxey maines is one of the popular tourist attraction at Isle of Man. Only one tunnel is opened for visiting. A water leaks from the wall even in warm season.

The mine is quite narrow and low, and at the entrance tourists is given the safety helmets. The mine has arrow gauge railways that was used for delivery lead outside.

Today the Laxey railway is used as a tourist attraction. During warm season, races on small steam locomotives with names Ant and Bee are carried out here.
